Scarlatti Research

The Key2Singing foundation of Leiden, is very grateful to have obtained access to a very poorly known vocal sacred work of Domenico Scarlatti, that he is thought to have written during his stay in Portugal.
The Key2Singing foundation has decided to further research this work as an important goal of this project, with particular emphasis on the following aspects;
- Completeness,
- Quality (musical),
- Reproducibility and
- Performability.
Our first view of the manuscript has been enthusiastic and our initial evaluation regarding completeness and (musical) quality is almost complete. We shall now follow up by obtaining better quality reproductions or arranging a viewing of the original in Portugal. Following this step we shall be in a better position to provide more information.
In addition we have access to the manuscript of a piece that is well known. We shall use this to compare it with the already performed version.
We are also studying a number of other vocal works by Domenico Scarlatti in our programme for this project. These are seldom performed works and thereby we aim to bring them to the attention of a wider audience, and to inform the public that Domenico should not be famous only for his keyboard works, but also for his sacred and secular vocal oeuvre.
